A vote for European sovereignty? Central and Eastern Europe countries’ perspectives on EP2024 elections
The European Union (EU) stands at a critical juncture as the 2024 EU Parliament elections approach. These elections, along with the formation of a new Commission, will significantly shape the state of democracy within the EU and its role as a global actor. The EU’s democratic resilience and sovereignty depend on collective efforts, political will, and adaptability. As decisions unfold during the elections, their impact will reverberate globally.
This report, coordinated by Visegrad Insight, produced through a year-long strategic foresight program involving 10 partners and insights from over 150 policy influencers, explores potential outcomes and their implications for the EU’s democratic future and global influence. Specifically, we examine challenges and opportunities related to democratic resilience, the Rule of Law, fundamental rights, and the EU’s role as a global actor.
